Changes in nations and regions throughout history have sometimes happened because of the ideas and beliefs of philosophers and leaders. Two examples of leaders are Gandhi and Mandela.

Mahatma Gandhi |
One individual who impact history is Gandhi. Gandhi was Indian leader. He studied law and become a lawyer. He lived in South Africa and protests segregation. He also studied world religions. In India, not everyone is treated equally. Gandhi believed all people should be treated equally. He used civil disobedience and non-violent protest. For example, he did hunger strike and Salt March. Hunger strike is when he go to jail he didn't eat any food. Salt march organized people to march to the sea to get their own salt instead of paying English taxes. His protests were very successful; the British left India. After he died, India gained independence.

Nelson Mandela |
Another individual who impact history is Mandela. He was from South Africa, and he was against Apartheid. Apartheid is segregation of white and black races. The majority of people in South Africa were black, but the small number of white ruled the country. He didn't believe it was right for the white people to oppress the black people, so he led non-violent protest. Then he went to jail for 27 years because he spoke and led violent protest against the government. He impact history because he ended Apartheid. After jail he became the president of South Africa.
Change in history can be made by individuals like Gandhi and Mandela who stand up for what is right. They both have ideas. Individuals have had a significant influence on groups, nations and regions. Ideas still affect the world today.
